JOB SUMMARY:

The Director administers a comprehensive social service delivery system specific to the Gila River Indian Community through delegation of responsibility for day-to-day operations to Program Administrators, Managers, Coordinators, and Supervisors. Work involves directing activities of the Support Services programs. The Director has considerable independence for carrying out policy decisions and department goals under general supervision of a Division Manager. Reports to the Community Administration, Community Council, and appropriate committees; administrative direction is provided by the Governor of the Gila River Indian Community. The nature of this position differs in scope, due to the high demand in dealing with populations associated with complex traumatic experiences that requires a high-level of confidentiality and sensitivity of all programs that operate on a 24/7 crisis oriented basis in a rural area.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops departmental goals, operational objectives, and budgets; Provides direction to the Community’s short and long-range planning for social services programs;
  • Establishes departmental policies and procedures; Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the various Social Services programs.
  • Develops and maintains effective inter-agency working relationships;
  • Consults with governmental officials at the tribal, municipal, county, state, and federal levels, private industry, and community members;
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activities;
  • In conjunction with appropriate personnel and fiscal department representatives, negotiates contracts between Bureau of Indian Affairs area office and other federal and state agencies;
  • Prepares a variety of reports, special studies, and correspondence to Division Manager, Tribal Administration;
  • Administers and maintains employee actions/records; ensures employee performance evaluations are completed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work or a closely related field and a minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in social service programs and which included five (5) years management and/or administrative supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work or a closely related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of responsible management experience in a social service program to include three (3) years.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed Master of Social Work or Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential preferred.
