JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources (HR) Director is part of the senior leadership team responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Nation’s HR functions, which involves developing and implementing human resource strategies, policies, and programs that support the Nations’ goals and enhance its talent management and workplace culture. Originates and leads HR services, policies, practices, and objectives that provide a team member-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes quality, productivity standards, goal accomplishments, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a strong workforce with a focus on Tolowa Dee-ni Nation tribal members.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, communicates, and implements HR strategies and initiatives that align with the Nations’ overall mission, values, and business directives
  • Responsible for managing all HR services, policies, and programs including recruitment, employee retention, and capacity building
  • Develops and maintains employee orientation and onboarding
  • Develops and implements a professional development system for all employees
  • Administers all employee benefits, such as health insurance, 401(k) Plan and workers’ compensation
  • Establishes and leads the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to establish a strong workforce, focusing on Tolowa Dee-ni Nation tribal members
  • Leads employee relations efforts, including conflict resolution, performance management, and ensuring a positive work environment; addresses employee concerns and grievances professionally/ethically in a timely/confidential manner
  • Conducts investigations of team member complaints, or guides HR team members performing investigative tasks
  • Encourages open communications; confronts difficult situations; maintains objectivity; keeps emotions under control; uses negotiation skills to resolve conflicts
  • Keeps the executive management team informed of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of TDN goals and issues not addressed adequately at the line management level
  • Collaborates with department heads and hiring managers to assess workforce needs, staffing levels, and succession planning. Develops strategies to meet the Nation’s short-term and long-term staffing needs
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or related area, and ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a related field. Progressively responsible work experience in a similar occupation may be substituted for the education requirement (two years of full-time experience equal to one year of college)
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required
  • Must receive and maintain Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) or Tribal Resources Professional Certification (THRP)
