Members primarily work in all areas of Human Resources for tribal nations and their governments and enterprises. Currently, over 2000 members serve gaming, hospitality, education, healthcare, social services and other tribal organizations.

As per bylaw requirements, all Board Members much be employed by a tribe or tribal organization. The Board is a voluntary position and are elected to serve four year terms and may be re-elected for an unlimited number of terms. The Advisory Committee is a group of professionals serving Indian County appointed by the Board for two-year terms. Areas of expertise includes law, technology, education, philanthropy, and finance. Advisors serve the Board in their profession to support and round out the needs to successfully operate the association and foundation.
Board members must be a NNAHRA member in good standing per bylaws. Nominations and elections occur during the fall annual conference. Please go to www.nnahra.org to review the bylaws and outline of commitments the board requests before considering an elected position.
Each board member serves two-year terms and may be re-elected for unlimited terms. Per bylaws, the seated board may appoint board members if there are vacancies during an elected board member term. (New bylaws change board member terms).
THRP is a comprehensive certification program with focus on how HR professionals understand and apply applicable laws, create employment codes and policy to protect the sovereignty of tribal nations. The program is offered a number times throughout the year in person or virtually. Certified professionals must maintain TRHP by continuing their education and validate every two years. Please go to www.nnahra.org to learn more or email info@nnahra.org with any questions you may have.

Yes, payments can be made on NNAHRA website. Members will receive an invoice via email.
The Tribal Human Resources Professional (THRP) certification is valid for two years following the successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Thereafter, one’s THRP can be re-certified for an additional two years. Training and coursework are approved by NNAHRA in advance with successful completion/attendance. NNAHRA Membership must be renewed annually.
At this time the THRP course facilitator is provided by Drummond Woodsum (DW). NNAHRA has partnered with DW but we are separate entities and therefore, payments cannot be transferred.

Your certification is valid for two years from the date it is issued. To maintain certification, you must:
- Attend at least 24 hours of approved, qualified training before your certification expiration date; and
- Submit a certification maintenance form by the expiration date. Students who have registered for upcoming classes that start up to 2 months beyond the month their certification expires will be granted an extension. Students will still need to submit the certification maintenance form by the expiration date. They must note on the form that the class is upcoming and, upon class completion, resubmit their certification form.
Qualified Classes include any of the following:
- The NNAHRA Annual Conference
- Any NNAHRA sponsored trainings
- Drummond Woodsum or Rick McGee approved trainings
Accredited higher learning courses with emphasis on Human Resources and Human Capitol
All other trainings, seminars or conferences must be approved by the NNAHRA Board of Directors.
Training certificates of completion and/or other similar documentation shall accompany the certification maintenance form.

Sam Henny was an early leader of development of programs and policies to mentor tribal members into leadership roles. Her work at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde motivated many other tribes to introduce similar programs based on her early work and foundation building. Sadly, Sam left us and is watching over all of us today. NNAHRA celebrates her life and work by presenting the annual Sam Henny Award. The award recognizes tribes with successful tribal programs.
To be considered for this national recognition, simply email your program policy and/or procedures to the selection committee at info@nnahra.org. The Board selects a committee of three to review the submissions and select a program to be celebrated during the conference. Those submitting in the past but not selected are encouraged to submit again for consideration.
The Leader of the Year award recognizes model Human Resources leaders who contribute to their organization by improving their tribal organization’s bottom line, achieving business results, demonstrating leadership or developing innovative programs. Nominees requires a demonstrated level of accomplishment in four different areas. While the nominee may excel in one or more of the areas, a demonstrated accomplishment in all four is required to receive the award.

Yes, NNAHRA leads surveys per the request of regions. The board is currently developing a 2022-2025 survey calendar with more information to be posted in early 2022.
