If you’re a visionary leader with a deep respect for tribal values and a proven track record in HR excellence, we want you on our team!The Human Resources Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic management of the Human Resources (HR) department. This includes implementing policies that support employee engagement, mentorship, succession planning, compliance, and recruitment. The Director ensures that HR initiatives align with the Pueblo’s goals, tribal values, and federal and tribal laws, fostering a workplace that values cultural heritage, diversity, and employee well-being.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic HR Planning: Develops and implements a strategic plan for HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management. Aligns HR strategies with the Pueblo’s mission and goals, supporting long-term growth and workforce sustainability.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Leads the formulation and revision of HR policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and tribal laws. Advises leadership on regulatory changes impacting employment practices and ensures policy adherence throughout the organization.
- Employee Engagement & Retention: Designs and implements employee engagement initiatives, focusing on cultural sensitivity, work-life balance, and recognition programs. Oversees employee communication programs that foster an inclusive, supportive work environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education & Experience: Combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field, with a minimum of seven years of progressive HR experience. Advanced HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, THRP, TMP) and experience in Tribal HR are preferred.

Knowledge of Tribal Governance
- Understanding of tribal laws, customs, and government structure.
Legal Compliance
- Proficient in federal and tribal employment laws, with experience ensuring compliance in applicable laws.
Employee Engagement & Communication
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage employees at all levels and handle sensitive information confidentially.
Strategic HR Management
- Proven ability in policy development, HR strategy, and data analysis to drive informed decision-making.
Mentorship & Succession Planning
- Committed to fostering a culture of growth, promoting internal talent development and succession planning.
Technological Proficiency
- Skilled in HRIS systems, MS Office Suite, and data reporting.
