JOB SUMMARY:

Employees earn four weeks of paid time off each year and get paid winter break the last two weeks of December. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic team committed to Native communities. We strongly encourage applications from Native peoples with experience working with Native communities. This position is 40 hours a week with heavy computer use. Current staff are in Pacific, Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones, keeping 9 am to 5 pm hours in their respective time zones. Some flexibility required. This position is remote with occasional travel covered by NABS to national conferences, guest speaking engagements, and events.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok).
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content, including text, graphics, videos, and other multimedia.
  • Monitor social media trends, hashtags, and emerging platforms to keep the brand current.
  • Respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Track, analyze, and report on social media metrics to measure performance and optimize future strategies.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the organization’s website, ensuring accurate and up-to-date content.
  • Optimize web pages for user experience and SEO best practices.
  • Regularly review website analytics and make changes accordingly to improve performance and user engagement.
  • Troubleshoot website issues and coordinate with developers or hosting providers as needed.
  • Develop compelling stories, campaigns, and content for ongoing initiatives and events, including blog posts, newsletters, social media posts that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop multimedia content for web and social channels.
  • Maintain a consistent tone and voice across all digital platforms.
  • Produce multimedia assets, such as graphics, videos, and photos, that align with the organization’s brand and mission.
  • Develop a digital content calendar in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Propose and execute strategies for audience growth and increased digital engagement.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and integrate new techniques and tools into the digital strategy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Basic graphic design and video editing skills (e.g., Canva).
  • 5+ years of experience managing social media accounts and websites with demonstrated success in growing and engaging audiences across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Loomly, Hootsuite, Buffer).
  • Familiarity with WordPress.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and Google Analytics.
  • AI Experience: experience working with AI technologies, tools, or applications in a Communications or related role.
  • Knowledge of the Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian boarding school history, legacy, and impacts.
  • Familiarity with and work experience in Native American communities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with nonprofits or advocacy groups.
  • Strong photography skills.
  • Proficient in creative design and videography
