JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for general accounting functions; includes areas of responsibility in reconciliation of accounts and financial statements, budgets, analyzing financial information, supporting internal and external audits, reviewing and approving expenditures and purchasing documents while remaining in compliance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as liaison to external accounting firm and agencies on financial matters.
  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Responsible for journal entries and resolving accounting discrepancies and irregularities, maintaining databases and ensuring accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close and establishes and monitors the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures.
  • Responsible for grant financial reporting.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements and various detailed analyses.
  • Work closely with pertinent staff/departments for finance related matters.
  • Review processes and make necessary changes or recommendations to improve efficiency and workflow.
  • Assists with budget development and provides support to Managers and Supervisors in the budgeting process.
  • Perform all functions in an exceptional manner and maintain all confidential information and matters relevant to the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three (3) years in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation, and providing programmatic financial advice.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field OR a combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five (5) years direct Accounting experience.
  • CPA or MBA in Accounting
  • Experience in providing accounting services in a health care environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Tribally operated health systems
