SUMMARY:Mental Health and the Workplace Accommodations: Navigating the Challenges
DESCRIPTION:Workplaces are pressure cookers that oftentimes bring out our best but can also generate anxiety and other unintended consequences that have a real impact on our colleagues.  When an employee’s mental health generates a workplace challenge\, tribal employers typically engage in a meaningful conversation to determine whether the employer can accommodate the employee’s needs while holding employees accountable to the workplace standards.  This arena is complicated by the question of whether federal and state standards apply and when they do not\, how should the tribal sovereign shape its standards. \nCoffee with Counsel\, a quarterly webinar series hosted by the National Native American Human Resources Association (NNAHRA) in collaboration with Drummond Woodsum and employment law attorney Richard McGee. \nCoffee with Counsel provides a space for HR professionals to engage in meaningful discussion around today’s workplace and employment law topics impacting Tribal organizations. Designed as a virtual “coffee break” conversation\, the series blends practical legal insight with real-world HR perspectives in an approachable and engaging format. \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to explore common workplace challenges\, emerging legal trends\, and topics suggested by HR professionals working within Tribal governments and enterprises. \nPlease note: \nThese sessions are intended for general informational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice or create an attorney–client relationship. Participants should not share confidential or matter-specific information and are encouraged to consult their Tribe’s or organization’s legal counsel for individualized guidance. \nCoffee with Counsel is sponsored by NNAHRA and supports the organization’s professional certification programs\, including: \n\nTribal Human Resources Professional (THRP)\nTHRP II\nTribal Adjudication Professional (TAP)\nTribal Management Professional (TMP)\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Aligning Department Goals with Tribal Vision: Strategic Planning Through Tribal Self-Determination
DESCRIPTION:Tribal self-determination is\, in part\, a tribe which defines its own goals\, sets its own deadlines and plots its own path to achieve those goals.  Defining and executing a tribe’s goals is certainly within the purview of tribal leadership\, but goal setting cannot be exclusively leadership’s role.  In their departments\, managers should exercise the tribe’s self-determination by setting proactive goals\, and with those goals\, determine the path and set the deadlines. \nCoffee with Counsel\, a quarterly webinar series hosted by the National Native American Human Resources Association (NNAHRA) in collaboration with Drummond Woodsum and employment law attorney Richard McGee. \n  \nCoffee with Counsel provides a space for HR professionals to engage in meaningful discussion around today’s workplace and employment law topics impacting Tribal organizations.
